5 tips to healthy and glowy skin

After many years of personal research and experience, I have come up with 5 tips to real healthy and glowy skin. If you try these, then let me know your thoughts in the comment box below.

1. Be mindful of what you eat and drink (incl alcohol)

This is a hard but an important rule to follow if you want healthy skin. Give your body the right amount of nutritions, vitamins and minerals for it to give back the healthy skin you want. Disruption in gut microbes play a huge part in inflammatory skin reactions like acne and spots.

It has not been proven that drinking alcohol is a reason for skin irritations, however, the hormonal changes due to alcohol have been proved to effect the influence of acne development. Therefore, it is always great to keep alcohol at a balanced level. If you want to find out the primary reason for your acne and you think it could be because of alcohol, then go on a detox - a detox in this case would be a break from alcohol to notice the changes/improvements - no improvements would clarify that there's no connection between the two in your case.

2. Drink 6 - 8 glasses of water a day

The reason I believe that drinking enough water is important for healthy skin is because it keeps your skin hydrated, which reduces the dryness. Having dry skin triggers oil production, which causes acne and pimples. - This is it! It's as simple as that.

Keeping your skin hydrated is a great measure to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, pores, itchiness and to keep your PH balanced too.

3. Follow a regular skin care routine

It is highly important that you give your skin the correct products according to its needs. However, it is equally important to follow it regularly. Some skin types would require a heavy routine, and others could get away with just washing your face and applying moisturiser, but it is important that you don't miss your routine, regardless.

Having a night routine is as important as having a morning routine. This is because night is the time when your skin takes its time to breathe and to absorb the vitamins and nutrients from the products. Massaging the products is always a brilliant method to improve blood circulation in your skin.

Tip: If you struggle with keeping up, then start with a simpler routine and amend it as time goes.

4. Use the right/suitable products for your skin

When I was in my early teens, I knew nothing about skin care and I just used vaseline on my face and lips (which I believed to have mixed with my natural facial oils and produced a lot (A LOT!) of acne).

Skin needs:

It was only in my late teens I discovered my skin type and tried products. It's never too late to change your skin care to its needs. If you live in European countries where the weather change is very drastic, you'd notice that your skin's needs would change at least around 2 - 3 times a year.

In search for the perfect product:

There is nothing called a perfect product! You don't have to go for the high-end brands. Simpler brands work just as well. But be sure to do a patch test before you use it on your entire face. By this you'll be able to notice any irritations from the product. It is advisable to switch your brands as you don't want your skin to get used to an individual product ,that once you change over, your skin irritates.

Tip: Don't skip sunscreen even if there's no sunlight. Man-made sources like tanning beds release UV rays, too. Sun screen can protect you from UV rays.

I have sensitive combination skin - If you want a blog with my favourite products then let me know in the comments or send me a message.

5. Get 7 - 9 hours of beauty sleep

Sleep is a huge benefit factor for many complications, and to improve your skin is one of them. The right amount of sleep helps to improve blood flow, rebuild collagen and repair skin damage.

Getting the required amount of sleep also helps to reduce stress, which is another enormous factor of acne and skin irritations.

Thoughts to consider

Your skin repairs itself roughly around every 27 days -

It's not the end of the world if your skin breaks out regularly. This could be due to hormones too (which is mostly the case if your're a teenager), so you just have to give it time to repair itself. If you see your skin react badly to all kinds of products, then it is advisable to keep your skin routine minimal and to not over pressure your skin with extras.
